Review: Puffle Party 2014

Ever heard of the phrase "the bane of my existence?"  Well, yeah, after the constant updates to puffles, they have become the bane of my Club Penguin existence.  Because of this, and the fact that the Puffle Party last year ended up being crowned the worst party of the year in my year in review series, this party had a lot to prove.  Did it?

First of all, the rooms that were decorated were all very well done.  While there has been some outcry due to the removal of puffle specific rooms, I think, for the most part, that changing the rooms was a good decision on Club Penguin's part.  Instead of bringing back those rooms yet again, Club Penguin gave us something new to look at.  This was a shot in the arm that this party needed.

Second of all, there was the music.  The new tracks at this party were fantastic.  I really have no complaints.

Next, we have the story.  While it wasn't horrible, it certainly could have been better; for instance, Rockhopper has already brought puffles.  Additionally, there wasn't much to it.  Club Penguin needs to stop coming up with simple, little stories and start giving us new information and better plots.

The items at this party were so-so.  Since I'm not a huge puffle fan, they seemed a little flamboyant and unneeded.  That being said, for the most part, they have some pretty nice art.

The main focuses of this party were of course the new puffles, puffle tricks, the Puffle Park, and the Puffle Gala.  As far as the new puffles are concerned, they pass.  Their designs and animations are well done, though, at this point, any new puffles aren't going to get much praise from me.  That being said, I'm glad we didn't have some lackluster, disappointing quest in order to get these puffles.

Next, puffle tricks are alright.  Sure it's a nice feature, but it's yet another new feature that becomes uninteresting after a couple minutes.  Meanwhile, instant puffle digging is about the best thing this party has to offer.  I am glad the random digging is still there as well.

The Puffle Park is yet another unnecessary permanent room.  Sure, the little puffle care areas here and around the island are neat, but they are also very unnecessary.  At least this room has a nice look, though its addition makes the Plaza look even more cramped.

Then there's the Puffle Gala.

This room is the single reason that this party isn't the best one of the year, in my opinion.  While, like the other areas, it has a great design, there is nothing to do here.  There were no items to be found, no games to be played.  Had this room not been hyped up like the Muppet Theater and just released as another, regular room on day one, I would be completely fine with this room.  But, because Club Penguin made it sound like some amazing creation, this party gets a major mark down in my book.  Since this "big" finale card has been played two months in a row I'm kind of worried; is this Club Penguin's new model?

But, in closing, the Puffle Party of 2014 somehow, miraculously, is one of the best parties of the year so far.  If the big finale hadn't been hyped so much, it would have been the best one of the year.  While this party is really just a hybrid of a bunch of different themes with some little puffle stuff in the middle, which is another tally against it, it did manage to capture some of the magic of old Club Penguin: where the art was the main point and not some half-effort new experience.

You've made amazing parties in the past, Club Penguin.  So, why fix what isn't broken?

As Billybob would say, Waddle On!
