No Party is Safe

This year has been a year of change.  A year when penguin designs were altered.  A year when pins became click-able.  And a year where several traditional parties have been given the pink slip.

But which party will be the next to be fed to the sacrificial flames?  And why were staple parties removed in the first place?

It all started in March.  This was when Club Penguin revealed that the St. Patrick's Day party (which had appeared from 2006 - 2009 and then in 2012) would not be returning.  Then, later in the month, we said good-bye to the Easter Egg Hunt, a party which had become traditional, then was omitted from a year and was then returned safely, only to be once again axed.

It was after this that another shoe dropped.  For the first time ever, the April Fool's Party went un-celebrated.  Then the Earth Day Party was pretty much dropped, except for one lone room - the Forest - which payed a small (and silent) tribute to it during the Marvel Superhero Takeover 2013.

Sure, all of these parties were payed homage to in the Better Igloos catalog and Penguin Style catalog in some "fashion".  Earth Day was also mentioned on the Club Penguin Blog.  And, Red Nose Day kind of filled the void for April Fools. But, it just wasn't the same.

But, now comes the almost certain cancellations of traditional parties that have no tie to holidays - the Medieval Party, Music Jam, and Island Adventure Party.

So, why did these parties get the ax?

St. Patrick's Day, Easter Egg Hunt, April Fool's Day, and Earth Day
CP seems to be shying away from holiday themed parties.  They don't want to rely on real world events so much.  I don't think these will return again, unfortunately.

Music Jam and Island Adventure Party
Spike Hike stated in a tweet that there will be a music-summer party which will probably fill these voids.  We just don't know how much of the original parties' elements will be included.  I think if this party is popular it could become traditional.  Thus, while these specific parties wouldn't return, we wouldn't really be losing them.

Medieval Party
There are murmurs (that I hope are true) that this party will find a new home in November which I think is probable.  Otherwise, if it is gone, maybe CP feels they can't top the Scorn story-line?

And finally, who's next?

Well, look at the rest of last year's traditional party line up who's fates have not been confirmed:

-The Fair (September)
-Halloween Party (October)
-Anniversary Party (October)
-Holiday Party (December)

The only one on that list that is almost certain to return is the Anniversary Party.  Otherwise, could the Halloween and Holiday parties go bye-bye because they are real world holidays?  Could the Fair have seen its final run last year since it wasn't really updated much?  I sure hope not!
