Review: Card-Jitsu Snow Party 2013

After years of waiting, Card-Jitsu Snow is finally out.  And with it, comes a themed party.  How does it stand with the other parties?

First, let me start out by saying this party is an updated version of the Card Jitsu Party in 2011.  Many of the rooms are carbon copied from the original version, while some are slightly updated to accommodate snow.  Is this bad?  Well, not really.

Considering it has been almost a year and a half since the original party, this second version seems more fresh - I must admit at first I didn't know that a couple of the rooms were designs we had seen before.  And the artistry still holds up in each of the rooms.  They have a great Japanese-Ninja feel to them.  It's the closet thing to a culture party since the Winter Fiesta or St. Patrick's Day parties way back when.  Some of the rooms even include nice nods to past Club Penguin staples - such as the 2D Puffle on the Pet Shop and almost all of the Coffee Shop.

As for features, this party feels like something from 2008 or earlier.  You see, recent parties haven't really been "parties" - they've been more quest oriented, with a story line.  There weren't just decorations on the island - there was full on adventure to be had.  However, with this party if you take away the launch of the permanent Card-Jitsu Snow game (I'll get there in a second), there isn't anything but decorations, really.  Sure there is the neat Card Jitsu "live action" game at the Stadium, but there isn't some quest with an exclusive mini-game, transformations, or a room "littered" with free items at the end.  It's just decorations.  Bad?  Hardly.  It's just something I wanted to point out.

But, what is this party really for?  The new game, of course.  While I did review Card-Jitsu Snow back in it's beta days, I will say I still like the game.  I like certain things Club Penguin has changed in it, such as giving the game new backdrops every time you start the game.  I think Club Penguin did a great job making the game longer, more re-playable, and different by adding a ton of new items and videos to unlock, having a multitude of stamps, and giving coins.  And, while I'm not a Snow Ninja yet, I'm eager to see how Sensei and the master boss play into the picture.

However, the game is still pretty buggy.  I'll give Club Penguin time to iron out the wrinkles but it is annoying.  Also, I think it's sometimes hard to make a tactical decision with the little time you have.  And, while this is nitpicking, don't the spikes in the middle of the arena seem out of place and a bit to stark?  These aren't game breakers, but they are small annoyances.

The redesign of the Dojo Courtyard and Dojo look great, though it is sad to say goodbye to the old designs and the Ninja Hideout.  Also, the Martial Arts catalog and Card Deck have nice face-lifts.   The "Snow Path" (it doesn't really look like a Dojo to me) looks good as well.  It's really nice to see the concept art for rooms and other things and then the finished product.

Overall, the party and game are great.  The music is awesome and almost everything I mentioned above is flawless.  Does it have a few problems?  Yes.  But, is it a triumph?  Most certainly!  Maybe, just maybe, if it returns again (which I hope it will) we could turn into dragons? ;)
