Review: Festival of Snow 2015

After that inexplicable party-less June, could Club Penguin redeem itself with this thought-to-be-forgotten favorite?

The Festival of Snow is classified as a mini-party because of its lack of advertising and grand scale.  However, ironically, this party has a larger scope and much better content than pretty much any major party we've ever seen on the island.

What makes this party a real winner is that it feels like a classic Club Penguin event.  There's no live or die epic storyline that ends with a horrendously unsatisfying final event; instead, the Festival of Snow shows Club Penguin at its best: creating a party that is only that; a party where people have fun.  The simple setup is fantastic because there are no expectations for a fantastic finish; what is there is all you get and you won't leave disappointed after hyping up the events.

Really, this party has almost everything a classic party should have.  It has simple and well-made decorations.  It's island-wide (and feels like a grander event because of it).  It has intriguing and simple free items that even many who consider themselves veteran Club Penguin players had never gotten their hands on (And they were in boxes with no lame tasks in sight!)  It's virtually bug free.  It has catchy music.  It's only a single week long.  It's player driven.  What's not to love?

And, while some have complained that a handful of the sculptures chosen are not as well designed as others, I personally am glad that Club Penguin didn't strictly choose work that is universally thought to be flawless.  As someone who greatly appreciates art but isn't that great when it comes to creating it, I'm glad that Club Penguin chose art that displayed various levels of skill to show that you don't have to be outrageously talented to make something worthy and be apart of the art world.

In closing, the Festival of Snow is one of the most well produced parties in years.  Its simple concept prevents the often fatal flaw of over-hyping and it covers the entirety of the main island, meaning that it feels like a true party and not just something that was thrown together.  Make no mistake: this is one of the best of the best.

Score: 10/10
