Review: Best Day Ever

It's been nearly a year since the last Club Penguin song.  Is it even worth revisiting this element of Club Penguin at this point?

Best Day Ever has a good beat going for it.  While it does sound similar to other Club Penguin songs - namely The Party Starts Now -, that plays in its favor.  When Club Penguin turns away from the pop-scene, things don't always turn out great; just ask Gotta Have a Wingman, which I regard as the worst Club Penguin song - though it's not horrible by any means.

Still, Best Day Ever feels very clichéd.  Putting aside the fact that it sounds very similar to some of its predecessors, the quote "Best Day Ever" isn't anything that original.  Additionally, the song is pretty vague in its details.  It's the best day ever!  Why?  Well, because....uh....things are sunny and happy!  Sparkles!

This song will obviously be compared to the 2006 SpongeBob song of the same name.  That one is far better in my opinion, as it is very joyous and kind of tells a story.  Plus, Cadence can't hold a candle to the marvel that is SpongeBob SquarePants.

On another note, the Penguin Band is irreverent to this song.  These characters, who have always been the most underdeveloped and underused of the Club Penguin bunch, have no lines in the song and merely play the instruments in the background.  There is no reason for them to be credited; there was background music in Cadence's first solo song and Club Penguin didn't feel the need to squeeze in a Penguin Band reference there.  The only reason they appear to be here is so they have something to do at Music Jam and in the music video.

Speaking of which, the music video for the song is a weak "meh."  While the last Club Penguin song, Party in My Iggy, had an artsy, yet somewhat uninteresting video, this song gets a video filled with animation (just as I wanted from the last one)........and does absolutely nothing with it.  Whereas The Party Starts Now had a video that showed a couple Club Penguin locales in interesting new ways and had several little easter eggs, this video shows the unneeded Penguin Band and Cadence doing such intriguing things as.....jumping, swaying, and performing....and basically nothing else at all.

The stage that the characters are on in the music video is heavily generic with no detail and most penguins in the crowd are just silhouettes with no identity as far as clothing is concerned; on the contrary, The Party Starts Now's music video had lots of unique penguins, some of whom were showing off never before seen clothing.  Also, unlike the first Club Penguin music video, Best Day Ever's video does not include the whole song and it doesn't feel like the animation flows properly.  The Olaf puffle detail was welcome and the square ideas were at least a bit interesting, though.

In closing, Best Day Ever is a solid pop addition to Club Penguin's music resume.  While not very inventive, it ranks as my fourth favorite Club Penguin song, after the very catchy Anchors Away and Cool in the Cold, as well as the varied Ghosts Just Wanna Dance.  While its music video seems like a lazy, half-effort attempt at a companion piece that just wants to get done as quickly as possible, Best Day Ever is still a song that I'll remember as one of the better entries in the Club Penguin series.  Now, if only we could get a second CD....

Score: 4/10

  1. Honestly, Cadence and the band feel so lifeless, stiff, and awkward in the music video. Why did they even bother making it?

  2. To be honest, I think my CP track list would order in:

    1) Party In My Iggy
    2) Ghosts just wanna Dance
    3) Gotta have a Wingman
    4) The Party Starts now
    5) It's your Birthday
    6) Best Day Ever
    7) Cool in the Cold

As I really didn't like Best Day Ever, as it sounded like they were trying too hard and there was little or no reference to CP in the actual song lyrics and Cool in the Cold is more a holiday song than anything.
