Review: Descendants Party

This party proves once and for all that the terms "mini party" and "main party" now have no meaning; parties are now whatever size they want to be.

Given that The Descendants is a brand new property based off a classic and beloved series of Disney fairy tales, I can't get as mad at its placement in Club Penguin like I did with Teen Beach Movie because its classic Disney roots give it a built in audience.  However, I think if you'd ask almost anyone, they'd say they'd rather have a classic Disney party than this.

That's not to say that this party seems like an event that merely exists to advertise.  Indeed, it's so small and the push for it marketing wise was so subtle that it feels like an extra mini event that exists as a treat for fans of the movie, without isolating non fans who happen to play Club Penguin. This is the type of model I've campaigned for since the beginning for licensed properties and so I have to commend the team for using this smart tactic.

However, the size of this party is also a curse in a different way.  Somehow, Club Penguin's party productivity has gone down in the past few months despite the fact that the team had a month off in June.  I keep waiting to see a supersized event where all of that extra time went into and yet everything keeps shrinking.  The lack of new content is concerning.

And yet, once again, I counter myself by saying the lack of new content at this party is actually a good thing.  I've literally commented for years about how Club Penguin's party objective system is always far too simple to entertain.  Because of this, there's something admirable about a party that admits defeat on the mission front and just presents itself like a decoration filled fun event from 2007.  I'd rather have no quest than one that I find disappointing.

There's not a lot to say beyond this.  The three rooms are really well designed without seeming overstuffed and the Iceberg was creatively used in a brand new way.  The music is fine, but none of it is memorable.  The costumes are nice enough, but if we had gotten the regular, classic Disney interpretations that the parents have in the movie, I'd be a whole lot more excited.  That's all.

Like basically everything in Club Penguin's 2015 slate, this party had nothing absolutely infuriating to offer and nothing very memorable to give, either.  I logged on, went through the rooms, collected the items, and logged off three minutes later to write this review and move on with my life.  That's our new reality.  I guess it could be worse.

Score: 5/10

  1. I find it odd too about June. There was hardly anything new in that month, and where was that time shifted to? Who knows. Certainly the Inside Out Takeover nor the Fashion Festival needed that much time. If they need two extra months to work on the 10th Anniversary, I see a huge red flag.

Where is the memorable EPF event, or the next installment in Card Jitsu? They seem to be completely disregarding their own internal properties and focusing on already existing plots and themes.

Start shifting focus on your own world Club Penguin, and not others.

  2. It's sad, isn't it? As Kingboo8884 mentioned on his site, the next 12 months are extremely critical to Club Penguin's success. I fear they will screw it up. Ways to fix it:
    1: Bigger parties
    2: Get rid of autotypers
3rd party programs are against the rules, but they do nothing to enforce that rule
    3: Original new ideas
Everything that we've gotten in 2015 is something that we've gotten before. Make something new that all players want to see!
4: Advertise on Disney Channel, Disney XD, and ABC
CP Used to advertise on Disney Channel. They should go back to doing it again!
    Those are just my thoughts
