Review: Holiday Party/Coins For Change 2013

It's still the Christmas Party.

The Holiday Party has always been loved universally by the Club Penguin Community.  But after nine events, the question has to be asked: is there anything left to innovate this party?

Club Penguin's answer to this is a resounding "yes!"  This year's train theme is a brilliant addition.  I also like the return of the Featured Igloos opportunity, the ability to help nonmembers, and the little mini-game.  The plot is simple yet really great.  I love when Club Penguin connects parties, as the Holiday Party did with last month's Operation: Puffle.  It really makes you feel like Club Penguin is this big connected universe.

This train addition could have been a little more refined, though.  Several times my computer slowed to a crawl in the train rooms.  Several other times I could not even board another train, let alone get the option up for others to join mine.  For this reason, I have spent very little time with the trains.

Of course, the big event is Coins For Change.  I believe this year really is the best one ever.  It's nice that we no longer have to choose where our donations go.  I also like the additional train experience that was added to help out the cause (even if it's a bit broken).

Meanwhile, Rockhopper is here.  However, he's not a very big deal at this party.  Rookie has had a bigger impact on this party than him!  The newspaper has mentioned him in passing (with one article written all by himself), but he just doesn't have a very big footprint on this party.  His holiday outfit is nice, his background is nice, the thought is nice.....he's just a bit irrelevant to the party.

The rooms at this party are a mixed bag.  Every single one of them looks nice, though, matching the recent trend, much (or all) of the interior of many buildings is left bare.  Additionally, many rooms are carbon-copies from last year or have been slightly modified to allow the trains.  The new designs - including party rooms - are very nice.  In particular, it's nice to see the moving room function from the Teen Beach Movie Summer Jam back in business.

There are a few new songs at this year's festivities.  While they aren't as good as the greats, they compliment the classics well.  Club Penguin did a good job not relying on just a few songs.

So, to close, the Holiday Party this year has a lot going for it and a lot trying to tear it down.  This year, the Coins For Change formula was finally mastered, but the bugs came out in droves.  There's a lot to love and a lot left to be desired.  But, then again, that might just be 2013 in a nutshell.

As Billybob would say, Waddle On!
