School Shift

Modern Club Penguin has many marks that carry over from party to party, but one of the most prominent ones is the zany, colorful variety of the themes we get to see each month.  Every party from 2014 up until now has featured a new art style that doesn't fit in with regular Club Penguin.

So, one of the reasons the School and Skate Party was so refreshing was that everything fit in perfectly with rooms that didn't have any decorations.

Because of this - and the fact that Club Penguin has started to quietly sneak in new permanent room designs with parties more and more frequently - I have to ask: is the Skatepark the only thing from the current party that's here to stay?

Mine Shack
Of all of the decorated rooms that made an appearance at this party, this one changed the least.  I'm pretty sure the blue balloons and stage won't stay and I'm certain that the "Welcome Back" message will be gone.  The Sharks on the outside of the school probably will stay, though.

School Rooms
I'm almost 100% certain that these are here to stay.  Why else would the team update the school in such a way?

Forest
The Forest at this party is largely reminiscent of previous park imaginings of the same room.  People begged for Club Penguin to keep the design those times to no avail; I doubt this time will prove any different.

Pizza Parlor
This is a very tricky one.  The Pizza Parlor just got a facelift less than two years ago, after all.  However, if Club Penguin updates the school permanently like I think they will, this argument will be irrelevant because the previous school design lasted just barely over a year.

That being said, the School and the Pizza Parlor isn't an apples to apples comparison.  Whereas people wanted a bigger school and a gym, people haven't really requested any updates to the Pizza  Parlor (aside from the wish that the original design would come back).  In this way, updating the school serves a need, whereas updating the parlor adds very little to the experience of Club Penguin.  Additionally, there is no puffle pizza station in the party version, something I doubt would be omitted from a new main design.

The room could stay the way it is to make the place look a little more retro and serve more than just pizza.  Just don't count on it.

Mall
While the idea of the a Stage going away may seem like nonsense, it is pretty clear that Club Penguin doesn't really care about it anymore.  There hasn't been an original play in years and Polo Field said that that almost certainly won't change.  Club Penguin isn't afraid of replacing old rooms completely, as proven with the Recycling Center and the Sports Shop.

While the Stage has completely changed its purpose during parties several times since 2012 - think about the police station, recording studio, and Puffle Gala - this mall just seems different.  It's far more detailed than most Club Penguin party levels, to the level that it matches or even surpasses some permanent rooms. Why would Club Penguin put so much time into a two week room, particularly when they don't put out that much art any more as it is?  A mall seems as natural of an extension to Club Penguin as a Skatepark does.

The thing that really made me think that Club Penguin would ditch the stage and keep this around was the picture of pumpkins that is displayed on one of the walls of the mall.  Now, you could just call this foreshadowing, but this seems like something that Club Penguin could use to give more depth to the game, much like the furniture plants that grow and lose leaves according to the season.  The same could be true here if the mall is permanent, with a Christmas, Spring, and Summer theme to mimic real world mall decorations in the months to come.

Another reason why the Stage could - and really might - leave is because its purpose keeps getting less and less important.  The Stage started as place where Club Penguin could create crazy costumes that otherwise wouldn't have been needed.  However, parties are now zany enough that that is not needed at all.  Additionally, if that gym in the school stays like I think it will, there will be one less play for Club Penguin to work with.

There are two problems that could prevent this change, though.  The less compelling one is the new permanent Stage catalog that was just added months ago.  Why would Club Penguin put time into creating such a large thing if it wouldn't be used for long?

The more important argument is there aren't any stores or catalogs to be found at the mall, making the room pretty useless.  However, this is where Club Penguin could really make this idea shine; a mall would be a perfect place to add new rooms, catalogs, and activities to the island.  There could be a minigolf or go kart area (Maybe that's what Gary's planning for those karts?!)!  There could be a movie theater where Club Penguin shorts could play!  Snow and Sports and game upgrades catalogs could be added here with their own little stores, along with the aforementioned Stage one!  Hey, there could even be a Stage in the mall!

Will the facelift happen?  Stay tuned.

As Billybob would say, Waddle On!
