The Economics of Club Penguin Island

It's 2007.  While penguins on the snowy island known as Club Penguin are chillin' out during the Water Party, humans around the globe are in turmoil.  A great economic crisis was beginning around the world, sending stocks down and causing house prices to plummet.  People around the World are still dealing with the repercussions of these events to this day.  But, little did the fun - loving penguins know, the Club Penguin economy could have been spiraling out of control as well.  And it might still be.

You see, if you really look at Club Penguin as a real place you'll see that its economic system really is contorted.  For example, how are penguins payed money when they aren't doing any work?  If you really think about it, the only games that should give coins to you are Ice Fishing, Bean Counters Smoothie Smash, DJ3K, Puffle Roundup, Pizzatron 3000, Puffle Rescue, and Aqua Grabber.  While that does seem like a size-able amount, there are a ton of other games that would then be deemed irrelevant as far as cash earning is concerned.  Shouldn't you have to pay to play the arcade games in the Dance Lounge?  Shouldn't Hydro Hopper and Catching Waves receive money from you instead of the reverse?  And why do I get coins for Cart Surfer anyways?

Also, how does the Ski Lodge, Lighthouse, Dance Club, and other public areas and things remain open?  Many of these businesses do not receive a stable source of income - in fact they pay you.  There aren't any tax dollars in Club Penguin so how does the Dance Club keep all its lights on 24/7?  How does the Ski Lift remain in full function?  Is there some incredibly rich beneficiary that we don't know about who covers these costs?

Another layer of this topic involves the party committee.  How do they accumulate enough funds to have complex and extravagant parties every year?  While party catalog revenue may be an explanation, throwing parties of that magnitude must cost a pretty penny.

In closing, if Club Penguin were a real place I believe it would have dire financial woes.  While we probably will never get an explanation on how the island keeps going, I believe it is interesting non - the - less to examine this.  And, at the end of the day, we have to remember that Club Penguin is a site partially geared towards children.  Just like physics in a cartoon, it doesn't have to make complete sense.

As Billybob would say, Waddle On!
